Cleansers without watchlist ingredients

What this label means and how we count it

The watchlist is a set of ingredients that comedogenicity tables list as pore-clogging: isopropyl myristate and the other esters, coconut oil, wheat germ oil, acetylated lanolin, lauric and myristic acid, carrageenan and a few red colorants. They are absent from this list. The word watchlist is deliberate. The ratings come from rabbit-ear testing, they do not transfer directly to human skin, and they take no account of concentration or of whether a product is rinsed off. So the list is information, not a ban. Contested and near-universal ingredients — shea butter, stearic acid, olive oil — are separated into a mention tier that appears in the ingredient tooltip and has no effect on this flag at all. Nor does the flag look at concentration or position: one match is enough, whether it sits second in the list or thirtieth, and the product page shows you which. Only products whose ingredient list we have read are included. We do not claim the products on this page will not cause breakouts.
